Información general

What are the requirements to obtain permanent residence in Canada?

Requirements vary by program, but generally include work experience, English or French language skills, and education. For the Express Entry system, age, Canadian work experience, and other factors are also assessed.
You can improve your score by learning a second official language of Canada, gaining additional work experience, obtaining higher education, or getting a job offer in Canada.
To work you will need a work visa, while to study you need a student visa. Both require a specific application process and meeting certain criteria.
The time varies depending on the program and the workload of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). For example, Express Entry is usually faster, but can take several months or even more than a year.
A provincial nomination, obtained through a Provincial Nomination Program (PNP), can mean additional points in the Express Entry system or an alternative path to permanent residence if you do not qualify for federal programs.
